Former Bungoma governor Wangamati joins Linda Mwananchi
Former Bungoma Governor Wafula Wangamati has officially joined the Linda Mwananchi movement led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking during preparations for Edwin Sifuna’s upcoming homecoming ceremony in Bungoma County on Friday, July 17, 2026, the former governor announced that he had fully joined Sifuna’s movement and would lead campaigns across Bungoma County and the wider Western region to rally support behind the Nairobi senator.
“Mlikuwa mnataka nikuje sasa nimekuja na niko nyuma ya kijana wetu sifuna na jhii linda mwanananchi na kuanzia leo nitaongoza siasa za opposition hapa Bungoma kwa niaba ya kijana wetu na naomba kila mtu asim, ame nyuma ya kijana wetu” Wangamati said.
Wangamati said Sifuna is the leader who best represents the aspirations of the community and has been chosen to champion its interests on the national stage.
Bungoma politics
During the forum, he urged other political leaders to follow suit, insisting that Bungoma should unite under one political movement led by Sifuna. According to Wangamati, any leader who fails to align with the movement should be viewed as a traitor to the community and a pro-government politician and should be rejected by voters.
He further called on all aspirants in Bungoma County to align themselves with Sifuna’s movement, saying discussions on nominations for governor, senator, members of Parliament and members of the county assembly should come later after the movement has established a clear political roadmap for the county.

Wangamati also announced that he would take part in the Linda Mwananchi rally scheduled for Kitale on July 25, ahead of Sifuna’s grand homecoming at Posta Grounds in Bungoma on July 26.
He urged Bungoma residents to turn out in large numbers for both the Kitale rally and the Bungoma homecoming to welcome and bless “their son”.
Plans to disrupt the Sifuna rally
The former governor also warned against any attempts to disrupt Sifuna’s homecoming. He specifically singled out Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who has been accused by leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement of planning to hold a parallel political meeting in Kanduyi, just a few metres from Posta Grounds, the venue of Sifuna’s event.

Wangamati dared Barasa to proceed with his plans, maintaining that the homecoming would go on as planned and would not be derailed.
He further urged all aspirants and leaders allied to the movement to use every available platform to publicise and mobilise support for Sifuna’s upcoming rallies.
