Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has gone full throttle on Gatundu North MP Kururia Njoroge, accusing him of betraying the people of his constituency by aligning himself with President William Ruto.

Speaking on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the Gatukuyu area of Gatundu North, the impeached DP did not hold back calling Kururia a traitor who has abandoned his constituents in favour of personal gains and political loyalty to the President.

Gachagua asserted that Kururia had chosen to work with Ruto at the expense of the people who elected him. He accused the MP of taking handouts for himself from the government while basic services in his constituency continued to suffer.

Tukifukuza Ruto, tufukuze wasaliti. Msaliti wa Gatundu North ni Kururia. Msaliti aende,” Gachagua declared.

He went on to accuse Kururia of betraying the community by failing to address key issues affecting the region. Gachagua said there was a lack of medicine in hospitals, schools had stalled, and university students were struggling, yet the MP was more focused on protecting his interests.

“Unaenda unachukua pesa kidogo unaeza hawa wamama, wazee na watoto, mahospitali hakuna madawa, shule zimesimama, wanafunzi wa university hawako shule, Ruto ameharibu kazi, wewe unaenda kushughulikia tumbo yako, msaliti aende nyumbani. Sisi tunasema Ruto, UDA na wasaliti, ni kufinish kumalo,” he said.

Loosely translated

“You go and take a little money and you betray these women, the elderly, and children. There are no medicines in hospitals, schools have stalled, university students are not in class. Ruto has ruined everything. You go just to satisfy your stomach — the traitor should go home. We are saying: Ruto, UDA, and the traitors — it’s the end, it’s over.”

Support for Ruto

Kururia Njoroge entered politics as an independent candidate during the 2022 general elections. He won the Gatundu North parliamentary seat by defeating the then-incumbent Anne Wanjiku Kibe of the Jubilee Party and UDA’s Kigo Njenga, securing 15,224 votes.

After his victory, Kururia declared support for President-elect William Ruto, saying he was aligning with the incoming government to ensure his constituency was not left behind.

“I’m waiting to see who between Azimio or Kenya Kwanza has the best deal. I jump there. For now, I support Ruto because he has the certificate of being elected,” Kururia said at the time.

His statement showed a calculated political move meant to keep Gatundu North in touch with national power.

Since then, Kururia’s loyalty to President Ruto has grown stronger. In March 2025, during a church service attended by the President, Kururia pushed for the Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu to be registered as a polling station for the 2027 elections. He said the church had consistently supported Ruto, and making it a polling centre would allow its members to show that support at the ballot.

Kururia has also stood firm in defending Ruto’s leadership in the Mt. Kenya region. Earlier this year, he joined Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi in accusing Gachagua of blocking development efforts by President Ruto. The two MPs called for unity and urged leaders in the region to work together for national progress.
