Bungoma police have summoned Eliud Wekesa, alias, Yesu wa Tongaren  a day after local MP John Chikati visited him and said his teachings were within the law.

But police commander Francis Kooli summoned him today for questioning.

“We have invited him to establish whether our brother and others whose ways of teachings have been questioned through accepted legal procedures,” said Kooli.

The police boss said they want to know if Wekesa’s teachings were within the law with the aim of protecting the public.

Chikati, who is also the Ford Kenya secretary general, said there is no problem with title Yesu wa Tongaren and should not raise eyebrows.

“Yesu wa Tongaren is just a name the way you can call me John,” said Chikati.

The MP visited the preacher at his Lukhome home on Monday and paid school fees for one of his children.

Chikati claimed that Wekesa was not preaching against education and modern medicine.

He, however, told Wekesa not keep married women at his homestead but allow them to go back to their matrimonial homes after prayers.
