Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has declared he will work with politicians who campaigned for his ouster as Bungoma governor in 2017.

In a direct reference to Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula, who campaigned for incumbent Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Lusaka said they have since mended fences and will work with the Bungoma senator.

Lusaka has announced his intention to run for the Bungoma governor seat next year’s election and has been crisscrossing the region in the company of Wetang’ula to sell his manifesto.

“I am coming to complete what I started as the first governor. I am now working closely with Wetang’ula to ensure I recapture the seat that I closely lost to Wangamati,” he said.

Speaking in Tongaren on Saturday, Lusaka said the burden of unforgiveness was too heavy to carry and only works towards dividing the community further.

“Wetang’ula and his ilk contributed to my loss because he campaigned against me, but that is in the past. We are now working together,” he said.

Lusaka said he has been under pressure from allies and critics to abandon working with Wetang’ula owing to their past relationships, however, he says he has maintained a cordial relationship with the Bungoma lawmaker.

Wetang’ula has led an onslaught against Wangamati after he was involved in an unsuccessful Ford Kenya party coup attempt.

After the failed coup Wetang’ula, who was Wangamati’s party leader, immediately started early campaigns for Lusaka, promising Wangamati a run for his money in the coming elections.

Speaking at the same function, Wetang’ula said he had buried the hatchet with Lusaka, and that they will now work together.
