The process towards Football Kenya Federation’s national elections began yesterday when the Electoral Board formed by the federation started receiving nomination papers ahead of the December 7 polls, amid disquiet from a section of stake holders.

On Sunday, a number of aspirants led by former federation boss Sam Nyamweya and former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga called for the shelving of the polls until pertinent issues were solved. They called for a free and fair election, saying the electoral code was tailored towards helping the incumbent retain their positions by locking out others.

Yesterday aspirants from Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Garissa and Wajir counties submitted their nomination forms to the board at their Goal Project offices in Kasarani.

It marked the start of a six-day nomination period that is expected to end on Saturday.

Among the candidates who submitted their documents are South Coast Branch Secretary Lilian Kazungu, who will be contesting the chairperson’s position alongside Goshi Alliy and Alamin Abdallah, who also came before the board’s secretariat.

“I will be vying for the FKF Mombasa County Branch chairperson seat. I believe I have what it takes for the position,” said Kazungu.

She added: “The nomination process has been flawless. I have confidence in the board that they will conduct a free and fair election.”

Salim Bambaulo from Kwale, Kilifi’s Dickson Angore and Taita Taveta’s Duncan Maghanga also came before the board’s secretariat yesterday.

Today will see aspirants from Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kitui, and Machakos present their papers to the board, while on Wednesday, aspirants from Makueni, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Turkana and West Pokot will have their day.

The deadline for submitting relevant documents is Saturday, with a preliminary list of eligible candidates set to be released on October 22, 2019. County elections have been scheduled for November 23, with the national elections slated for December 7.
