Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has stated that the Jubilee Party’s current political position is unclear.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Mbui observed that it is difficult to determine whether Jubilee is in the opposition or aligned with the government.

According to him, the majority of Jubilee MPs are affiliated with and supportive of the broad-based government, much like the ODM Party, making it difficult to establish Jubilee’s exact political standing.

He noted that only two of its members still remain in the opposition.

Mbui argued that Jubilee, as currently composed, is one of the parties whose role cannot be easily understood. He remarked that while most Jubilee MPs have already joined the broad-based government in the National Assembly, just like ODM, a small section still claims to be in opposition, creating confusion. He suggested that it feels like there are “two Jubilees.”

“Jubilee Party, as currently composed, is one of the parties you can’t understand. The majority of members of the Jubilee Party have already joined the broad-based government in the National Assembly; just like ODM, they are part of a party forming a government. I don’t know if one or two members still remain in the opposition. “I don’t understand which jubilee we are talking about; it’s like two Jubilees,” Mbui stated.

Kioni’s onslaught on united opposition

His remarks come amid a sustained onslaught by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, who has launched scathing attacks on the united opposition. Kioni has accused the coalition of sidelining Jubilee in key decision-making despite the party being part of the alliance.

Kioni has also faulted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for bullying former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

He claimed to have warned Matiang’i against joining Jubilee and instead advised him to form a Kisii-based party to negotiate with opposition principals.

Additionally, Kioni accused Gachagua of secretly working with the government, further alleging that the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is an appendage of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He has also in the past criticised the United Opposition for sidelining Jubilee’s candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, opting instead to support a Democratic Party candidate without conducting proper procedures such as party primaries.

The feud within the opposition has intensified following Jubilee’s National Delegates Convention held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Ngong Racecourse, an event graced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In response, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala dismissed Jubilee, labelling it a “red wheelbarrow” and insisting that DCP is the only dominant party in the Mt. Kenya region.
