Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed the opposition’s recent political activities, describing them as confused and likening their momentum to a “newspaper fire” that burns briefly before quickly dying out.

Speaking at a political gathering on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Mudavadi urged residents to remain firmly behind President William Ruto and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the Kenya Kwanza administration continues to enjoy broad support through its cooperation with leaders from across the political divide.

“Raila Odinga yeye ndio alikuwa opposition. Hii opposition… hii opposition iko confused. Wako confused,” Mudavadi said.

He went on to mock the opposition’s growing rallies, including those organised under the Linda Mwananchi movement in Western Kenya.

“Ni kama moto ya newspaper. Ya gazeti. Inawaka haraka alafu inazima tena haraka. Sasa itaisha haraka sana,” he said.

Mudavadi argued that the opposition’s current wave of political excitement would not last, expressing confidence that it would soon fade.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary then called on supporters in the region to unite behind President Ruto’s administration and the UDA party.

“Kwa hivyo tusimame imara, tuungane na chama ni UDA ambacho ni chama cha Mheshimiwa William Ruto. Na tunafanya kazi na Broad-Based kwa sababu kuna wale ambao walikuwa kwa ODM wamekuja tunafanya nao kwa serikali ya Mheshimiwa William Samoei Ruto,” he added.

His remarks come as the Linda Mwananchi movement, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and backed by several opposition figures, intensified grassroots mobilisation across Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The coalition has staged a series of rallies aimed at consolidating support in the region while calling for a united opposition front.

“United Opposition and Linda Mwananchi, all of us are in WANTAM, and we are working closely so that we become one team,” Eugene Wamalwa said.

Earlier this month, Mudavadi questioned the presidential credentials of its leaders, arguing that seeking the country’s top seat requires far more than drawing crowds at political rallies.

He urged Western Kenya residents to remain behind President Ruto, saying the region stands to benefit by staying within government.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna while speaking during the rally that saw thousands attending in Trans Nzoia County said he will not seek billions from wealthy individuals to finance his political activities.

Sifuna insisted that Linda Mwananchi will rely on contributions from ordinary Kenyans.

He said the movement had raised Ksh3 million through its paybill in less than three days.

“Wanasema hatuna pesa lakini watu wa Kitale wacha niwaambie, nimeona ma Ksh10bob zenu kwa paybill yetu ya Linda Mwananchi. Chini ya siku tatu, tumefikisha shilingi milioni tatu kwa paybill. Sisi hatutaenda kutafuta pesa ya ufisadi,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna said he preferred to be supported by ordinary Kenyans rather than accept money from wealthy individuals including COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli.

“Sai anasema yeye ndiye ako na one billion ati anaweza pea Sifuna. Mimi sitaki pesa yako, mzee. I do not need that money. Let Kenyans continue giving me money,” Sifuna said.

“I would rather be indebted to Kenyans because they gave me Ksh10 than Atwoli.”
