Siaya Governor James Orengo has vowed to deal with corruption cartels within the county government. Orengo put on notice county officials he accused of looting the county coffers during the last administration, warning that they will face the full force of the law if caught.

Orengo while speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Siaya KMTC grounds yesterday said he would sack all county government officials found to have looted the county coffers.

“I know that some of the corrupt cartels have run to Raila to come to their aid but I want to appeal to baba not to interfere with my mission of eradicating cartels from the system,” said Orengo.

Orengo had at a burial ceremony in Bondo last week asked Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga not to offer protection to the corrupt county government officials as he was determined to weed them out.

Orengo made the remarks only a month after unveiling a task force Headed by former Auditor General Edward Ouko to investigate corruption in the county government which has seen millions of shillings looted from the devolved unit.

At the same time, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is also investigating the alleged theft of Sh400 million during the last days of former governor Cornel Rasanga’s regime.
