Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has defended his constant criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, months after they fell out.

In a statement on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Wambugu, who served as Gachagua’s communication strategist and advisor, insisted that his constant criticism of his former boss was aimed at making Mt Kenya region remain politically stable.

The former MP poked holes in Gachagua’s calls for the mountain to unite as he accused his former boss of deepening the cracks in the Mount Kenya region while pursuing personal interests.

“Someone asked me what I hope to achieve with these injections. I told him I hope to add to efforts seeking to ensure the Mt. Kenya region stays as a politically independent zone, safe from selfish emotional manipulation,” Wambugu Ngunjiri wrote on his Facebook page.

Selfish manipulation

The former MP went to reprimand Gachagua by accusing him of advocating for his vested interests while invoking Mt Kenya politics.

Ngunjiri Wambugu made it clear that he would not shy away from calling out his former boss and exposing his brand of politics.

“Today, the person trying to selfishly manipulate Mt Kenya’s politics for selfish interest is Gachagua. I am calling him out. Tomorrow it could be me. I hope you will call me out,” the former Nyeri Town MP added.

Their fallout

Before Gachagua was impeached, Ngunjiri Wambugu served as his communication strategist and advisor. However, they parted ways after Gachagua’s fate was sealed.

On June 5, 2025, he told a local TV station that his rift with Gachagua stemmed from conflicting ideologies and leadership styles.

The former MP detailed that Gachagua’s principles were difficult to agree with.

“We are not together. I don’t agree with him on principle,” Wambugu said.

He added, “He has repeatedly claimed that DCP will be the only party in the Mount Kenya region. While that may be his way of promoting his new party, I come from Jubilee, a party that has existed for nearly a decade. Our differences are political, but I respect his right to express his views.”
