Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has hinted at the United Opposition settling on one formidable candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential polls.

Speaking during the Martha Karua People’s Liberation Party’s National Delegates Conference at Ufangamano House, Nairobi, on Friday, September 26, 2025, Muturi hailed PLP for settling on Karua as the outfit’s flag bearer in the next presidential election.

”When a people grow tired of misrule and corruption, they rise. And when leaders of conviction come together, they chart a new course for their nation,” Muturi, who has turned a sharp critic of the current administration led by President William Ruto, said.

”I celebrate the bold step taken by PLP in endorsing Martha Karua as their Presidential Candidate for the 2027 elections. Her resilience, integrity, and vision reflect the leadership our nation deserves.”

“This is not just about one party; it is about a movement, the United Opposition, forging cohesion, building momentum, and preparing to place a single, formidable candidate before Kenyans, a candidate who will anchor our country on justice, accountability, and prosperity. The tide of change is unstoppable. Kenya will rise again,” Muturi added.

Justin Muturi’s sentiments followed the Democracy for the Citizens Party leader and former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, who has hinted at backing Martha Karua’s 2027 presidential ambitions.

Gachagua backs Karua’s presidential ambitions

Speaking at the same event, Gachagua said Karua has all it takes to lead the country as the Head of State. ”Martha Karua is one leader I believe in the journey of democracy and national liberation. This journey is difficult; many will fall, many will be bought, many will be compromised, but I do not doubt that Martha Karua will go to the end to liberate this country,” Gachagua said.

The DCP chief said Kenya boasts of female leaders who have thrived in different sectors, further hinting at the PLP leader flying the opposition’s flag in the 2027 presidential race.

”We are therefore very happy that her party has endorsed her as the presidential candidate, and as she has said, she has already started convincing us to think whether she can fly the flag, and we are saying women are great leaders in this country, not just in politics, in every sector; in business, in agriculture, in church..in all spheres of influence, our women have proven that they can be trusted with leadership. They are passionate and they mean well for the country,” Gachagua said.
