Fanya Mambo questions govt after dishing out GoK-branded mattresses in Ol Kalou
Activist Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has questioned the government’s priorities after GOK-branded mattresses and bedsheets were distributed to residents of Ol Kalou.
Speaking to a local radio station on Monday, July 6, 2026, Kinuthia argued that the mattresses should have been directed to public hospitals.
He also accused an unnamed political leader of repeatedly returning to the Mt Kenya region despite publicly suggesting that he did not need its political support.
Kinuthia did not identify the person during that part of his remarks.
“He spends a lot of time in the Mt Kenya region. He keeps on saying he does not need us, then he immediately comes back to Meru and goes to Nyeri. He keeps wasting a lot of time there,” Kinuthia said.
“Now he is giving out mattresses in Ol Kalou. I have never seen such levels of desperation. Can you imagine?”
Hospital bed shortage
Kinuthia said the government should prioritise equipping health facilities instead of distributing branded mattresses and bedsheets to individuals.
“I am challenging any Kenyan to walk to any Level 3 hospital. Three women are sharing a bed, and then the government is dishing out GOK-branded mattresses,” he said.

“Shamelessly, this is an administration that should not be in office. The people of Ol Kalou are also being given bedsheets.”
Kinuthia also cited Kenyatta National Hospital, alleging that the facility was struggling to provide food to patients.
“Look at KNH. Even affording food is becoming an issue. This is a stupid administration that thinks in a way that is not acceptable,” he said.
He did not identify the Level 3 hospitals where he said three patients were sharing a bed or provide figures supporting the assertion.
Ruto-Gachagua fallout
Kinuthia later turned his attention to the political fallout between President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Gachagua served as Deputy President between 2022 and 2024.
“When Ruto says that he never needed Rigathi Gachagua, it is a classic example of people who are ungrateful,” Kinuthia said.
“He needed everybody.”
Kinuthia’s remarks come amid continued political competition for the Mt Kenya vote ahead of the 2027 General Election.
