Activist Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has said some United Democratic Alliance MPs from the Mt Kenya region privately meet former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at night.

Kinuthia told a local radio station on Monday, July 6, 2026, that the unnamed lawmakers had expressed interest in joining Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party but feared openly declaring their political position.

“In fact, some of those who are there in UDA are the ones who keep looking for Rigathi Gachagua at night from the mountain,” Kinuthia said.

Adding;

“He keeps saying it, that every day they are looking for him, wanting to join DCP, but they are afraid. And I keep on saying that these are leaders without a spine.”

Kinuthia did not identify the MPs he said were meeting Gachagua or provide evidence supporting the assertion.

MPs who abstain

The activist also questioned MPs who avoid voting on controversial matters in Parliament, saying elected leaders should be required to take a clear position.

He said he had discussed with constitutional lawyer Kibe Mungai the possibility of seeking a court declaration on whether MPs should be allowed to abstain from voting.

“One of the things I was discussing with Kibe Mungai, a constitutional lawyer, is how we can file a petition in court to make a declaration that it is illegal for a Member of Parliament to abstain from voting in Parliament,” he said.

Kinuthia argued that requiring MPs to vote either “yes” or “no” would make it easier for voters to hold them accountable.

Ndindi Nyoro targeted

He singled out Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, accusing him of speaking about economic challenges but failing to take clear positions during crucial parliamentary votes.

“We cannot say, like Ndindi Nyoro, you are barking, ‘bababababa, nyenyenye, problems, problems, problems, Finance Bill,’ a lot of economist jargon, and then on the day you are supposed to use your vote to vote for or against bei ya unga, you run away,” Kinuthia said.

He also referred to the parliamentary vote that led to Gachagua’s impeachment, saying some lawmakers were absent.

“When Rigathi Gachagua was being impeached, the Ndindi Nyoros of this world were absent,” he said.

“We have a message for you, Ndindi Nyoro and all. In August 2027, abstain from voting because Kenyans now see you have a problem with voting.

“In fact, those who voted yes are better because we know they are sleeping with the devil.”
