Kalonzo vows to work with Karua to claim power in 2027
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at strengthening the working relationship between his political outfit and Martha Karua-led People’s Liberation Party (PLP) amid the 2027 presidential election alignments.
Speaking during the PLP’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Ufangamano House in Nairobi, the former vice president said the two parties will work together to ensure the current regime, led by President William Ruto, does not cling to the 2027 presidency for a second term.
”Purple is the colour! I am deeply honoured to attend my twin sister Martha Karua’s PLP’s special NDC today at Ufungamano House, Nairobi. Together with Rigathi Gachagua, Justin Muturi and Eugene Wamalwa. We shall rescue and liberate Kenya. We shall chart the path for a stronger and United Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
However, the United Opposition faces a major shakeup in the coming days as all the top political brass have expressed interest in running for the presidency in the next 2027 general election.

Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, who also attended PLP’s ADC, still maintains his eligibility to vie for the top seat in 2027 despite his impeachment from the Deputy President’s office in October 2024.

At the same time, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Fred Matiang’i of the Jubilee Party are also eyeing the coveted seat in the 2027 polls, further raising concerns about who will fly the United Opposition’s flag against President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
Kalonzo going for presidency
On Thursday, September 24, 2025, Kalonzo Musyoka, in a TV interview, maintained that this is the right time for him to go for the presidency.
”I am going for the presidency. It is now or never; if I don’t go for it now, I will never go for it. If I go for it now and my colleagues give me the flagship, believe you me, I will not disappoint,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo spoke after presiding over Wiper’s unveiling of its candidates for ten elective seats in the upcoming November 27, 2025, By-Elections at the party headquarters in Nairobi, on Thursday, September 24, 2025, as he expressed optimism in the candidates ahead of the forthcoming mini-polls.
”We believe that this group of aspirants ably represent our aspirations and vision for our country,” Kalonzo said.
