Mark Nyamita explains why Matiang’i will ditch opposition
Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita has stated that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is on his way out of the United Opposition.
Speaking during a TV interview on Tuesday, September 30, Nyamita noted that, judging from recent events, it is only a matter of time before Matiang’i officially parts ways with the opposition alliance.

He pointed to a recent incident in which Matiang’i appeared to dismiss fellow opposition leaders as “noise makers” during a church function, arguing that the remark was a sign of disrespect and a clear indication that Matiang’i no longer aligns with the spirit of the united opposition.

“Matiangi is already out of that team. The events of last week, including the church incident, are because he introduced a senior politician in this country as a noise maker; this is his view of people in that loop,” Nyamita stated.
Nyamita added that Matiang’i has already distanced himself from the coalition, citing last week’s events where he introduced a senior politician in a manner that reflected his personal view of opposition leaders.
He further explained that claims by some leaders that they were not invited to Jubilee’s National Delegates Convention were misleading, saying they had an opportunity to attend but chose to boycott, which in his view demonstrates the lack of unity within the opposition.
He also referenced the NDC of Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, noting that during speeches by leaders such as Rigathi Gachagua, figures like Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua herself were acknowledged, but Matiang’i was conspicuously left out. To him, this signalled that Matiang’i had already been sidelined.

“These last weekends you heard even during Martha Karua’s and Gachagua’s speeches, when Gachagua rose to speak, the leaders he recognised in his speech, he Kalonzo, Wamalwa, and Martha Karua himself, and not Fred Matiang’i; he is completely out of the question.”
For the jubilee’s side, which held a parallel NDC to that of the PLP party, Mark Nyamita notes that throughout the event, there was no mention of the united opposition principles, signalling that they had already ditched the team.
“Even during jubilees and such, there was no mention of these other particular groups; they have already isolated them.”
Opposition feud
There comes a time when there are power struggles within the united opposition, with some members labelling Matiang’i as a state project within the opposition.
The party secretary general, Jeremiah Kioni, came out to counter these talks, saying that it is Gachagua who is secretly working for Ruto.
