Robert Mbui hits out at Kioni for saying Gachagua is secretly working with Ruto
Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui has faulted Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni following his recent criticism of the united opposition.
Speaking during a TV interview on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Mbui noted that as opposition parties continue to strengthen, leaders must be careful not to antagonise one another.

He pointed out that Kioni had been part of the opposition struggle for a long time, standing with them up to 2024 during the Gen Z movement, but for the recent past, he has since been largely absent from the scene.
Mbui emphasised that the journey ahead requires unity rather than divisive remarks.

On Kioni’s accusation that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly working with the government, Mbui dismissed the claims as misleading.
He recalled that only a year ago, Gachagua faced embarrassment in both the Senate and the National Assembly after being impeached on what he termed as flimsy grounds. Mbui argued that the matter is still fresh and Gachagua continues to carry resentment over what happened, making it unlikely that he would be collaborating with the current regime.
He described Kioni’s claims as unfounded and politically misplaced.
“I don’t know how short memories are. It’s exactly one year ago when he was embarrassed in the senate and national assembly and impeached on flimsy reasons. At no point have I seen Gachagua in anyway working for the government. The dust haven’t settled; someone can see he still harbours some negative feelings towards on what happened to him. For there to be any accusation that he is working with the current regime, it’s absurd,” he added
Kioni’s remarks on united opposition
These come a day after Kioni accused the United Opposition of bullying former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i and sidelining him in the opposition talks.

Speaking during an interview, he recalled an incident where Gachagua notably instructed Matiang’i to travel to Kisii and get a village party for negotiations.
Kioni questioned Gachagua’s authority in the matter, noting, “You tell him it out openly; in fact, one time, you can remember Gachagua telling Matiangi, ‘Go to Kisii and come with a village party; we negotiate.’”
