Kang’ata hails Mbogo after securing UDA’s nomination as Murang’a MCA
Peter Mbogo’s nomination as the new Member of County Assembly (MCA), replacing Wainaina Gicheru, has drawn praise from Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, who described the win as a reflection of commitment and hard work.
Mbogo’s nomination under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) banner and minority groups marks a significant step in his political journey, having previously served as a personal assistant in the Murang’a County Executive.
Taking to X on July 26, 2025, Kang’ata congratulated Mbogo, saying, “Congratulations, New MCA Muranga County Assembly Peter Mbogo. You have served us well in the executive as our personal assistant. Hard work pays.”
Mbogo’s elevation from county staff to an elected position signals a growing voter appetite for leaders with grassroots experience and a track record of service within the devolved government system.

New allocations
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducted the by-election as part of a wider realignment of county assembly seats. In a gazette notice dated July 24, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon reiterated the Commission’s mandate to manage elections in accordance with the law and ensure fair representation.
“In our commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and fair representation, the Commission plays a central role in managing electoral processes guided by the Constitution, relevant statutes, and regulations,” Ethekon said.
He further explained that seat allocations are based on party lists submitted during the 2022 General Election, aligning with Article 90 of the Constitution and Section 37(1) of the Elections Act.
Ethekon noted that vacancies in the County Assemblies had arisen due to the resignation or death of former members.
As part of the changes, Harold Kimuge Kipchumba was nominated to replace National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi—formerly a nominated MP—for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). In other adjustments, UDA’s Dubat Abdikadir Adan took over from Abdi Gedi Adow in Garissa, while Wainaina Lawrence Mburu succeeded Kihara Ezra Kabuga in Kiambu.
Mbogo’s new chapter
Mbogo’s entry into the Murang’a County Assembly is expected to bolster UDA’s presence in the region. Supporters say his knowledge of county operations and close working relationship with the executive make him a capable leader ready to take on legislative responsibilities.
His nomination is seen as a nod to service and loyalty, attributes that endeared him to voters and positioned him as a natural successor to the late Wainaina.
