Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has ruled out any possibility of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ceding elective seats to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the 2027 General Election, even as talks between the two parties continue.

Speaking during the ODM Linda Ground Narok edition held in Narok County on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Junet declared that ODM will field candidates for all elective positions across the country, from Member of County Assembly (MCA) to governor and senator.

He emphasised that the party remains strong and prepared for the upcoming political contest.

Nataka niwahakikishie kwamba chama yetu iko imara, na tutasimamisha watu kutoka kwa MCA, mpaka mbunge, mpaka gavana, mpaka senator. Kiti chochote ambacho ODM inahitaji, itasimamisha watu,” Junet said.

Party zoning

The Minority Leader made it clear that ODM will not leave any seat for UDA under any zoning arrangement, urging the ruling party to prepare for political competition.

Hakuna kiti chochote tutawachia UDA. Kama UDA wako na mpango kama huo, wajipange mapema,” he stated.

Junet added that even leaders from other parties would not be willing to give up their seats for UDA candidates.

Mimi siwezi wachia kiti changu UDA, na senator wenu pia hawezi wachia UDA. Wanataka nani awaachie kiti yao? Hakuna mtu ataachia UDA kiti, hiyo tumekubaliana,” he said.

UDA-ODM negotiations to continue

However, Junet maintained that while dialogue between the parties may continue, it will not result in ODM stepping aside in any electoral contest.

He noted that the two parties could still engage politically while maintaining their independence.

Lakini tutazungumza kama vyama viwili,” he said.

Junet further stressed that the ultimate goal of political engagement should be the formation of a government that serves the interests of ordinary Kenyans.

Tuta hakikisha kwamba sisi haja yetu kubwa sana ni kuunda serikali ambayo itakuja kusaidia watu wetu,” he added.

The ODM Linda Ground meetings are part of a series of grassroots engagements by the party aimed at mobilising supporters and strengthening its political base ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Narok meeting drew several ODM leaders and supporters from across the county, with speakers emphasising party unity and readiness for the next electoral cycle.
