Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua spent a better part of his Easter weekend interacting with grassroots leaders drawn from Meru County.

In a statement on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Gachagua noted that the meeting presented an opportunity for him to share insights regarding his expected party launch in May.

Gachagua further informed the leaders on the plans made so far ahead of the launch.

“This morning, I had the immense pleasure of hosting grassroots leaders from the land of my Mother—Meru County at my Wamunyoro residence. They brought with them warm greetings from my relatives and the vibrant community back home, a reminder of the deep roots and strong bonds that tie us all together,” Gachagua’s statement read in part.

“Their visit was a crucial opportunity for us to share insights and updates regarding the launch of our new political party. I was grateful to brief them on the preparations we have made thus far, highlighting our commitment to representing the aspirations and needs of our people,” he added.

Pulse of the ground

Gachagua, who, before his impeachment, bragged about how he was a keen listener to what the people wanted, got an opportunity to hear the demands from the Meru people.

The former second-in-command indicated that the leaders opened up to him that the people were yearning for change.

“In return, these dedicated leaders shared with me the pulse of the ground—what the community is saying, their hopes, and their concerns. It’s clear that the people are eager for change and ready to embrace a new vision for our county and beyond,” his statement added.

“Together, we will build a party that echoes the voices of all Kenyans, ensuring that everyone feels included and represented.”

Party Launch

On March 27, 2025, Gachagua announced that his party would be launched in May. Gachagua said the party will field candidates for all positions, to send the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) packing.

Gachagua revealed that the new party will have strong leadership from Kajiado, with the national chairman hailing from the county.

He has, however, not set a specific date when the party will be unveiled.
