DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has come out strongly to claim that the Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, is a key political player in President William Ruto’s government despite public doubts about his education.

“Some people think Oscar Sudi is not a learned guy,” Wamalwa said on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in a local TV interview. “But he’s a very serious and powerful politician in this government.”

Wamalwa recalled how Sudi had previously warned that then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would be impeached and end up spending Christmas as a private citizen, something that later came true.

Wamalwa argued that other political figures spoke about Gachagua’s impeachment, but Sudi’s decision to speak last reaffirmed his influential status in government.

The DAP-K party leader thus asked Kenyans to take caution in whatever Sudi says in various political forums.

“Oscar Sudi was the last person to speak when we were first hearing of rumours of the impeachment of the deputy president, and it happened. So when Oscar Sudi says that this thing, they are not ready to let go. And he says that even if the votes are not enough, they would add.. its not something to take it lightly,” Wamalwa said.

According to the opposition leader, Sudi has hinted that those in power are not ready to let go.

Wamalwa warns of power handover fears

He also mentioned Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei’s comments, suggesting that Ruto could not be willing to leave power after his first term.

“I had Senator Cherargei also say, they are not going to be the first people to serve a first term. Ruto will not be the first person to serve a first term…Kenyans need to take this very seriously,” he said.

Wamalwa stressed that the Constitution is clear on how a president leaves office. He warned that Kenya could be heading the same way as Liberia, Nigeria, and Ghana, where popular presidents were voted out after only one term due to failed policies.

“And it’s not because we hate William Ruto,. That all we are saying is one-term Ruto must go,” Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa also placed his hopes on the youth, especially Gen Z, to bring change in the 2027 general elections.

“With a president who is actually very clear about not willing to hand over, the only way we can save this country is if we beat him hands down. With a big margin of over two million votes that he cannot do anything about,” he said.

Wamalwa is among key opposition figures currently working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to form a strong alliance ahead of 2027.
