DCP to issue alternative budget proposals on June 5, 2026
Democracy for the Citizens party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to unveil alternative budget proposals for his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), while calling on Kenyans and Members of Parliament to reject the Finance Bill 2026.
Speaking ahead of the release of the party’s budget proposals scheduled for Thursday, Gachagua said he would outline reasons why the Finance Bill should not be supported, arguing that it does not serve the interests of ordinary citizens.
“I will issue budget proposals for the DCP Party tomorrow, and I will speak on the Finance Bill, and the reasons why Kenyans should reject it, and MPs should also reject it,” Gacchagua said.

The former Deputy President further warned that if Parliament forcefully passes the Bill despite public opposition, Kenyans would take to the streets in protest.
“If they forcefully pass it, the people will come out to demonstrate,” he added.
Gachagua also alleged that there were plans to use security agencies to interfere with any demonstrations that may arise in opposition to the proposed legislation.
“There is a plan to use the police to disrupt these demonstrations,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing national debate over the contents of the Finance Bill 2026, with various political leaders, civil society groups and citizens scrutinising the government’s tax and revenue proposals.
The DCP leader is expected to provide a detailed assessment of the bill and present his party’s alternative budget proposals during the press release.
Parliament invites public views
In preparation for Finance Bill 2026, the National Assembly is currently collecting current views from Kenyans on three key bills, which, if passed into law, will dramatically change the fiscal management, financial governance, and revenue administration landscape of the country.
Taking it to their social media on Sunday, May 31, 2026, the Parliament of Kenya has noted that there will be public participation sessions in the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning on the proposed legislation from June 2 to June 8, 2026, along with public hearings on the Finance Bill 2026.
Parliament has also stated that the exercise will collect public views that will guide amendments before the second reading stage of the bills.

“The National Assembly is currently considering three crucial bills aimed at strengthening Kenya’s fiscal and institutional structures. The Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning is scheduled to conduct public hearings on the bills from 2nd to 8th June 2026, alongside the #FinanceBill2026,” Parliament noted in a statement.
