With 23 rounds already played in the 2024/25 FKF-National Super League, the title race has now narrowed down to just two serious contenders.

Nairobi United FC, under coach Nicholas Muyoti, and APS Bomet FC, led by Evans Mafuta, are neck and neck in almost every statistical category.

Both teams have played the same number of matches and are separated by a single point in the standings, with Nairobi United on 48 points and APS Bomet on 47.

Even their goal difference is strikingly close, with Nairobi United edging ahead by just one.

The two sides have each won 14 matches out of their 23 games, with Nairobi United suffering only three defeats compared to APS Bomet’s four.

Nairobi United, sponsored by Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja, has won three and drawn two of its last five matches; identical to APS Bomet’s recent record.

League leaders Nairobi United boast the highest goal tally with 35 goals but have also conceded 17 times.

In contrast, APS Bomet has netted 27 goals but boasts the league’s strongest defense, having conceded only 10 times.

Out of a combined 46 matches played between them, only 11 have ended in draws.

The gap between the top two and the playoff spot, currently occupied by Kibera Black Stars FC, stands at a massive nine points, making any significant shift at the top highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, the race for the playoff spot has been reduced to three teams – Kibera Black Stars, Naivas FC and Darajani Gogo FC.

All three sides remain in contention, each having secured 11 wins. Fifth-placed Darajani Gogo, with 36 points and a game in hand, suffered a morale-shattering 4-1 defeat that stalled their momentum.

Kibera Black Stars sit third with 39 points from 23 matches. The Slum Boys, coached by Iddi Badi, won their last match 1-0 away to league newcomers SamWest BlackBoots but have struggled with consistency, losing three of their last five matches, which has hampered their chances of closing the gap at the top.

Naivas FC, on the other hand, appears to be enjoying a resurgence. Coach Elvis Ayany’s side has won three consecutive matches after previously suffering back-to-back defeats.

Sitting on 37 points, the supermarket-backed team knows that maintaining consistency will be crucial in their push for promotion.
