Stakes raised in NSL as APS Bomet host Naivas

Two big duels are expected to stir interest in the ongoing FKF-National Super League as the 2024/25 season continues to get spicy with each round. At the Bomet Stadium Saturday, league contenders and promotion candidates APS Bomet in second place have a date with destiny against fast improving Naivas FC currently in ninth place. The Administration men who are on 40 points off 20 matches drew their last match against Mombasa Stars FC in the last round played at Serani Complex.
Naivas, on the other hand, lost 1-0 against gritty Migori Youth FC but still maintained a top 10 place, presently stationed at 9th place with 29 points in the bag. In their last meeting, Bomet, under Coach Evans Mafuta, won 2-1 away and will be keen to get another win over the Retailers who are handled by Elvis Ayany.
Thus far, APS Bomet are one point adrift off the lead and know every point counts even as they also work to improve their scoring ratio.
“We expect a tough match, but we have planned well on how to execute ourstyle. I think the other side is also coming prepared, but we have our strategy in place as we try to win this important game,” said Mafuta
In another match to be played at Mumboha Grounds in Butere, hosts Luanda Villa welcome the tricky Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA FC) in sixth place.
Leonard Saleh’s side, in 10th place, have had a few rough results in recent times, but the four points picked in the last two matches will give them some confidence at home. Villa on 26 points would want to test their mettle against MOFA on 31 points, but who has yet to win in three games straight? Both sides have porous defenses, with 43 goals conceded between them.
Meanwhile, league leaders Nairobi United will want to forget their draw last time out against Kisumu All-Stars as they travel to lowly Mombasa United FC in a match to be played at Serani Sports Complex.
The Sunday afternoon match could be tricky depending on the visitors’ attitude acclimatization, but all odds are on the table toppers to come through unscratched.
Nicholas Muyoti’s team is on 41 points and in the driving seat as they seek promotion, while the coastal outfit is in 15th place on 23 points but with a match in hand.
In other matches lined up this weekend, Fortune Sacco FC, in fourth place, have an interesting match against visiting Vihiga United at Kianyaga Stadium in Kerugoya. Sacco on 33 points drew in their last match against SamWest while 12th placed Vihiga hushed 3 K FC 2-1 at home.
Elsewhere, Kisumu All-Stars in 11th place are looking for their first win in five matches as they host bottom side SS Assad at Moi Stadium in the lakeside city Saturday afternoon. Otenga who are facing financial challenges will be hopeful that the yearn full points to propel them upwards.
