Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti is optimistic about leaving a mark at this year’s CAF Confederation Cup as the Kenyan representative at the continental showpiece.

Speaking ahead of their first leg of the preliminary round against Uganda’s NEC on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Muyoti noted that Naibois are psyched up and ready to fly the country’s flag high continentally.

Nairobi United qualified for the competition after winning the league cup last season at the expense of Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia in the final. The club will make history, marking their first continental outing against their fellow debutants at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, starting at 7 pm local time.

Good exposure

Muyoti also noted that Nairobi United’s playing at CAF competitions is a testament that Kenyan football is on the rise, further stating that the Confed Cup is a good platform for his players to showcase their prowess in the game.

”First of all, I thank God for the boys who gave it all in the cup competitions. We are also proud to have this opportunity to represent the country in CAF assignments. It is a good platform that will give the players a chance to showcase their talent. It is also an opportunity to show that Kenya is on the rise in football and to show that we can do better in football,” Muyoti said.

”Morale has been high in the camp both in Kenya and here in Uganda. I believe we will record good results that will make the country proud. Many think we came to participate, but the boys have said this is their cup, and I believe they will get what they want,” he added.

Nicholas Muyoti, however, noted that starting the season with continental fixtures is challenging because of the lack of match fitness that comes with participating in local league matches.

”Playing in CAF competitions first before the local league matches for us is a challenge because we have not played competitive fixtures elsewhere; leagues have started, maybe two or three fixtures into the new season, which helps a lot, especially playing in such tournaments because of match fitness.”

“We are glad we participated in the Elite Cup and gained a lot in terms of fitness. I believe we will build on that,” Muyoti said.
