Muranga closer to top of second tier league
Muranga Seal are now only four points adrift of the pace and in second place following their 2-0 win over visitors Naivas FC at their St. Sebastian Park ground yesterday.
Eric Balecho’s 66th-minute goal and John Kiplangat’s 95th-minute were enough to get the Central side to 21 points in 10 games.
With leaders Shabana taking a breather, Seal did justice to their bid with important results that were helped by a well-drilled backline that did not allow any goal.
In another clash at Ildamat Stadium, hosts Kajiado FC held firm and steady to beat visiting Mara Sugar 2-1. The hotly contested duel saw the home team opening their account in the 20th minute though Enoch Ouma and James Mutuku in the 50th minute with the consolation for Mara coming in the 59th minute through Victor Ngume.
The match ended with the hosts having 10 men after Rayan Tahya was ejected in the 92nd minute after a second bookable offence.
Mara Sugar had in midweek beaten Kisumu AllStars and are now down to fifth place with 17 points with Kajiado up to 14th in the log with 10 points.
In Kisii, there was another shocker following high riding Kibera Black Stars FC slim loss of 1-0 against home team Gusii FC.
Town sibling
It would appear as revenge for their town siblings Shabana whose solid record was shut last week by the same margin in midweek by the Slum Boys.
Red-hot Gusii are now in fourth place with 18 points and a 13-goals difference in the standings as they continue to punch above their weight this campaign. Black Stars are now in third with 20 points intact off 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Kisumu All-Stars FC went hard at home against visiting Mwatate United, hammering the hapless Taita Taveta County side 5-0 at the Moi Stadium, to move to fifth on the National Super League log with 16 points.
Otenga as the Lakeside team is popularly known, had two goals in the space of eight minutes as they ensured the first half which they dominated ended 2-0 in their favour.
After the break, it was all systems go for the hosts with waves of attacks. The pressure was too much for the visiting side who then conceded a hattrick of goals in six minutes that put their troubles in a lid.
Elsewhere, Mombasa Elite’s impressive resurgence has gotten a boost following their 2-1 win over neighbours SS Assad at Shamu grounds in Kwale County.
The win means Elite are now up to 10th in the table with 13 points in the bag as Assad stick to 13th place. Goals for Elite by Emmanuel Lunalo in the 75th minute and Johnstone Majabe in the 80th minute were cancelled, a first-half effort by Beja Nyamawi for the hosts.
In another encounter, Silibwet Leons FC struggles persisted yesterday at home after only managing a goalless draw against Vihiiga United.
Both teams are only separated by a single point in the standings with the former at 14th place with eight points with the latter down at relegation place with seven points.
