AFC Leopards’ 2025 league campaign got off to a winless start, following a one-all draw against Sofapaka in the clash staged at Ulinzi Complex on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Leopards kicked off on the wrong footing as Djafari Satalla stormed Ezekiel Akwana’s side to a crucial lead four minutes in.

The team, comprising several new faces, however, showed intent and good fight after the setback.

Munyendo’s opener

The leveller finally came with Boniface Munyendo bagging the first strike for the new season after Ugandan Samuel Ssenyonjo set up the ball him on a plate.

The Ugandan continuing from where he left off with his goal involvement in the preseason games.

Fresh approach

The hosts were, however, lucky not to proceed to the breather a goal down as the referee ruled out an own goal conceded just before the breather.

Fred Ambani opted for a fresh approach in the attack, introducing Ronald Sichenje for Hassan Beja.

The change almost reaped instant dividends as Sichenje’s effort came back off the post a minute later.

Last-minute efforts

On the other end, Sofapaka’s Douglas Kibet came close for the visitors, but his shot from close range veered off wide after a nice give-and-go with his teammate.
The sides ultimately battled to a share of spoils for the league opener.

A similar result was recorded in another clash pitting Kariobangi Sharks against Bandari FC.

The clash at Kasarani Annex saw Ken Odhiambo’s team claim a slight edge in dominance but failed to find a way past Sharks’ defense thanks to an inspired display from Sebastian Wekesa at the hosts’ goal.

Meanwhile, the league action is set to continue on Sunday with Gor Mahia among those in action.

Gor will welcome Bidco United at Kasarani Stadium at 4:00 pm.

The Kenyan Premier League 2025/2025 season kicked off on Friday with Robert Matano’s KCB edging Tusker FC 2-O at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Former Gor Mahia forward Boniface Omondi Owino (Bajaj) gave the visiting team the opening goal in the 18th minute before wrapping up his brace in the 41st minute to hand the Bankers maximum points in the encounter.
