Former Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC and KCB will kick off the new 2025/2026 Kenyan Premier League season when the two sides meet at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Friday, September 19, 2025, starting at 6 pm local time.

With both sides proving title contenders in recent years, the season opener promises to be a mouthwatering fixture on Friday evening. After a frustrating 2024/2025 season that saw Charles Okere’s trained side finish fourth on the log with eight points behind champions Kenya Police, Tusker will be eager to start the new season on a high.

Tusker, who have gone four seasons without a major honour, will be seeking to win their 13th league title with KCB being their first obstacle in their title ambitions this season.

On the other hand, the Bankers will be seeking to start the new season on a high after confirming the experienced tactician and former Tusker FC boss Robert Matano as their head coach three months ago.

In this fixture, the Brewers have been the dominant side, winning 15 of their last 28 encounters, while KCB have managed just two victories, with 11 ties ending in stalemates.

Last season, KCB managed to collect four vital points from Tusker. The Bankers edged the Brewers 3-2 in the first leg before holding them to a goalless draw in the return fixture.

Tusker FC has wrapped up its week-long pre-season training camp in Kisumu, rounding it off with a 2-0 victory against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium. The side’s head coach, Charles Okere, expressed satisfaction with the gains made over the week in the lakeside city. “We have wrapped up the camp with a 2-0 win; two goals plus a clean sheet and that is something very positive as we approach our first game of the season,” he said.

The coach noted that the intensive week in Kisumu gave the squad a chance to bond and better understand one another both on and off the pitch.

Team building is not an easy thing. The one week we have been here has helped us identify the strengths and weaknesses of each other. We take this as a positive step, especially in a new season. We need to embrace this more evenly during the season. We can have more camps to build cohesion and integration. We believe this has been positive. Two wins, one draw against very good teams,” the tactician said.
