KVF finals: GSU closes in on title after sinking KPA

The General Service Unit Volleyball Club took a major step towards securing the 2025 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s volleyball crown with a victory over Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) this Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Kasarani Gymnasium Indoor Arena.
The paramilitary team dispatched the Dockers in straight sets of 25-15, 25-22, and 30-28 to move 1-0 up in the finals.
Gideon Tarus’ charges now shift focus to the second match of the best-of-three finals scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2025, where a win will seal their success as the national champions.
KPA will be seeking to regroup and stage a comeback to force the tie to a decisive decider on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

The clash pitting the former champions against the Portsmen, seeking a maiden title at the national level, rued a slow start that saw them outfoxed in the opening set as GSU roared to a 25-15 victory.
The coastal-based team overcame their stage fright to mount a tough challenge in a closely fought second set but narrowly lost by three points.
With their backs against the wall, KPA came back fighting in the third set, but despite forcing proceedings to go to the extra points, it was the former champions who outlasted them to take Game 1.
Roads to finals
KPA had edged the Prisons team in straight sets on Saturday, May 24, 2025, to win the semifinal showdown and secure their place in the finals.
GSU, on their part, asserted dominance over Equity Banks, producing an emphatic performance to edge the latter 3-0 to book its slot in the June finals.
The paramilitary side produced identical 25-20 victories in the first two sets before slamming the door shut on Patrick Owino’s team with a 25-16 score in the final set.
Pipeline smelling women’s title
Meanwhile, Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club inched closer to clinching the women’s league crown following a 3-0 win over rivals Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Nairobi.
The Oilers put up a commanding performance at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium to clinch the first meeting in three straight sets.

In the match-up, DCI came closest by mounting an immense fightback in the second set, but their resilience ultimately ran short in a 25–20 defeat.
The win places Geoffrey Omondi’s coached side in pole position for the honours, with a win away from bagging the women’s title.
The two sides will face off in Game 2 on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with a win ensuring the Oilers’ coronation as the new champions.
The clash will kick off at 2 pm.
