Ksh1B sponsorship marks Kenya’s football transformation – FKF boss
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has described the groundbreaking Ksh1.12 billion sponsorship deal with a local gaming firm as transformative.
Mohammed said the pact, which will span the next ten years, covering the FKF Premier League starting with the 2025/26 season, will breathe new life into the country’s football ecosystem.
According to details of the deal signed on Thursday, July 31, 2025, 60% of the total funds will be allocated to FKF Premier League clubs as direct financial support. The other 40% will go toward managing the league’s operations and administrative expenses to enhance its stability and efficiency.
While addressing the media during the launch, FKF President Hussein Mohammed termed the deal a major breakthrough for the sport in the country.
“This marks a transformative chapter for the FKF Premier League. After a long period without consistent private sector support, today’s agreement signals a turning point,” said President Hussein. “We thank our partners for believing in our vision and joining us on this journey. We look forward to delivering on the trust they’ve placed in us.”
He added that FKF is committed to bringing more sponsors on board to fuel the growth of football from grassroots to professional levels. Mohammed also expressed the federation’s gratitude to the league’s sponsors for having faith in the federation after searching for one in vain amid challenges.
”After enduring challenges in attracting private sector backing, our partner’s renewed faith signals a turning point for Kenyan football’s future. Football Kenya Federation sees this partnership as a crucial advancement in attracting more collaborations. We are resolutely committed to upholding the confidence you’ve placed in our hands as we look forward towards a long-lasting partnership.” Hussein Mohammed added.
Most of the non-corporate clubs in the country’s football environment struggle to meet their daily obligations due to insufficient funds. Cases of unprocedural contract terminations and delayed salaries at the club level have been rampant in recent years.
However, this long-term collaboration is anticipated to boost the visibility, commercial appeal, and overall standards of the FKF Premier League. It also promises to create a lasting positive effect on clubs, players, and fans across the country.
