The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has confirmed that emergency response teams and relevant agencies have been activated following an incident at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a statement shared on its official X account on Thursday, June 11, 2026, KAA said the situation is being managed in accordance with established emergency procedures.

“KAA is currently responding to an emergency situation at JKIA. Emergency response teams and agencies have been activated and are managing the situation in accordance with established emergency procedures,” the authority said.

The authority further assured the public that coordinated response measures are underway to contain and manage the situation.

KAA added that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

“Further updates as more information becomes available,” the statement added.

Planned emergency drill

However, in a subsequent clarification, KAA said the emergency situation earlier reported at JKIA was a simulated scenario conducted as part of a planned full-scale emergency exercise.

The authority said the drill had been successfully concluded and normal airport operations resumed without disruption.
