Kenya Prisons Women’s Volleyball has punched its ticket to the Kenya Cup Semifinals stage after a 3-0 set win over Kenya Army this Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Prisons blitzed past the Army ladies’ team in three straight sets of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-15 to seal the one-sided encounter at the Nyayo Stadium Indoor Arena.

The Josp Barasa-coached team became the first team to seal passage to the last four, where they join Kenya Pipeline, who received a bye in the quarterfinals stage after their win.

Prison seeking amends

Prisons, which finished just out of the podium in the Kenyan National Volleyball League in May, will be seeking improved tidings after their inconsistent performance in the playoffs.

The former champions were beaten by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the national playoff semifinals.

They wrapped up the underwhelming campaign in fourth place after losing the third-place playoff to Kenya Commercial Bank.

In other fixtures for the semifinals slot, DCI will play against the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Meanwhile, Kenya Commercial Bank will be out to push for a last-four berth against minnows Post Bank.

The Edith Wissa-led team seeks to enter the competition’s last four and cement their status among Kenya’s elite volleyball sides in the game.

Women’s Quarterfinals Fixtures

KCB vs. PostBank 1:00 PM

DCI vs. KDF 3:00 pm.

Men’s fixtures

Sunday action will see the men’s matches come alive in Nyayo Stadium with three fixtures on the cards.

GSU will face off against KAPU as the Administration Police of Kenya clash against the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) team.

In another clash, TrailBlazers will host Kenya Ports Authority at 1:00 pm before the Prison men’s team finishes the day’s matchup against Equity at 3:00 pm.

In addition to acting as a preseason preparations tournament, the first edition of the 2025 Kenya Cup presents the chance for elite volleyball sides to claim early bragging rights with the coveted prize at stake.

The stage also ushers in the platform for renewal of rivalry for teams that clashed in the concluded Volleyball National Playoff that saw Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club emerge the winners in the women’s category and GSU in the men’s category.
