Ingosi ready to power Kenya past Cameroon
Harambee Starlets captain Ruth Ingosi has promised a good show tomorrow as they commence their 2024 CAF Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifiers against a highly rated Cameroon.
Ingosi who is expected to partner with Vihiga Queen’s center back Phoebe Owiti at the heart of the defence says they understand the the task ahead and are ready for delivery. “Everything is going on well here in Douala,we are in good shape both physically and mentally ahead of the match tomorrow and we are ready. We want to cut the work here and finish the business in Nairobi next week, for sure we know how to it in our way”, a confident Ingosi told People Daily Sport.
The 29-year-old Simba Queens defender was part of the Harambee Starlets squad that won the CECAFA Senior Women’s title in 2019 when the Kenyan team thrashed hosts Tanzania 2-0 in the final in Dar.
Her composure and no-nonsense defensive mentality makes her an integral figure in coach Beldine Odemba’s plans for a decent show away from home on Friday evening.
Ingosi has previously been in the books of AEL Limassol and Lakatamia in Cyprus before moving to Tanzania for Simba Queens.
At least 16 players in the Starlets’ 23 woman squad currently in Cameroon are foreign based and Ingosi believes that factor will give them an edge over their West African opponents.
“Indeed it is a good thing having a huge number of players playing overseas. These players have gained massive experience and that is really instrumental in our quest for AWCON qualifications. With the blend of the local based players,we are going to keep the fight until we achieve our targets,” Ingosi added.
Harambee Starlets is scheduled for a final training session on the match day venue today 9PM ahead of tomorrow’s clash under the lights.
