Gor Mahia reclaim top spot with comeback victory over Murang’a Seal
Gor Mahia FC has resumed its spot at the top of the Football Kenya Premier League standings after edging Murang’a Seal in a five-goal thriller at the Moi International Sports centre, Kasarani, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Charles Akonnor’s charges rose from the dead from a two-goal handicap to mount a stunning second-half fightback for a remarkable 3-2 victory.
Charles Akonnor’s charges trailed just after Seal claimed an early strike inside the opening ten minutes through an in-form Joe Waithira.
Proceedings took a sour turn for the former champions, who found themselves trailing further after Francis Memusi doubled the lead at the half-hour mark.
Surreal second half
Gor’s moment came after the restart in a surreal fashion. Two early quick-fire goals from Felix Oluoch and Paul Ochuoga turned the match tide in Gor’s favour

A tale of two halves, it proved to be as Gor completed the impressive comeback with Ebenezer Asifuah sealing the dramatic victory in the 82nd minute with a well-taken goal past Mustapha Oduor at Seal’s goal.
The club’s latest arrival made a grand start to life at Gor Mahia with the much-needed strike.
With the win, Gor climbed to the top of the standings, dislodging AFC Leopards, who dropped to second on an inferior goal difference. Ingwe, whose 4-0 thrashing of Tusker FC on Sunday, January 11, 2026, had temporarily placed them on top, are now second to Gor despite both teams being on 30 points.
Police held
In another FKF PL match of the day, the Kenya Police’s inconsistent streak stretched further with a 1-1 draw at home to Mara Sugar.
The result put the defending champions in fifth spot with 24 points after 15 games.
The clash fittingly had Akonnor warn the team against the dangers posed by the side who entered the clash on an impressive unbeaten streak of 10 games, with Gor Mahia next in line to try and mar the cherished streak.
Akonnor had stated that his side would need to approach the tie with tactical awareness and shrewdness as they also look to manage their levels of lethargy, resuming action after their barren draw to Shabana.
“We are heading to this game after another match, and we will have to be both compact and clever against them. We must ensure we do not allow them to play. If you allow them, they will push you back, so we have to be compact to not allow them to express themselves,” he said.
Despite the defeat, Seals are ranked in the top half of the log, coming in at ninth.
