Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Gor Mahia FC have confirmed that Ugandan striker Charles Bbaale has parted ways with the club following a mutual agreement.

The announcement was made on the club’s X account earlier on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

“The club and Ugandan striker Charles Bbaale have reached a mutual agreement to part ways. We truly appreciate his contribution during his time with us and extend our best wishes in his future pursuits,” the statement read.

Bbaale joined Gor Mahia earlier this year as the club sought to strengthen its attack after a challenging season. However, his stint coincided with a period of upheaval for the 21-time Kenyan champions. The 2024/25 season ended trophyless, with Gor Mahia finishing behind Police FC in the Kenya Premier League and losing the Mozzart Bet Cup final 2-1 to Nairobi United of the National Super League.

Following these setbacks, the club took the drastic step of sacking its entire technical bench, including interim head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, as well as medical and security staff. Club chairman Ambrose Rachier described the move as part of a “broader restructuring process aimed at enhancing both technical and operational strength” while acknowledging the commitment of the outgoing staff.

Exit amid rebuild

Bbaale’s arrival had been seen as a potential boost to Gor Mahia’s struggling attack, which had struggled since the departure of striker Benson Omalla to a Lebanese club. The Ugandan striker had previously featured for Rwandese side Ryon Sports and SC Villa in Uganda. Despite his potential, limited playing time and fierce competition for spots meant Bbaale was unable to make the impact both he and the club had hoped for.

The club has since begun rebuilding under new technical staff, including Ghanaian head coach Charles Akonnor and his team. The arrival of video analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo and other technical staff marks Gor Mahia’s intent to restore stability and competitiveness.

Bbaale’s departure comes as Gor Mahia continue to scout talent and fill gaps within the squad, with an emphasis on revitalising both their attack and overall squad depth. The club extended its gratitude to the striker for his professionalism and contribution during his short stay and wished him success in his next career move.

As K’Ogalo enters a new phase of restructuring, fans will closely monitor the upcoming season to see whether the changes yield the desired resurgence at the top of Kenyan football.
