FKF reacts to Nairobi being handed the 2024 CHAN final clash

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has voiced its elation after being handed the rights to host the finale of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
In a statement shared via its X page on Friday, 20, 2025, Kenya’s FA lauded the development as an honour for the country.
The football body says the recognition is in line with furthering its quest to build the future of the country as a footballing nation.
“It’s official: The 2024 CHAN final will be played at Kasarani!
We’re honoured to host the continent and thank CAF for the trust placed in Kenya. With continued support from the government of Kenya, we’re building the future of football,” part of FKF’s statement read.
The competition, earlier scheduled for February 2025, was postponed to August, 2025 after the three host countries—Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—lagged due to the absence of necessary infrastructural development.
CAF Media confirmed on Thursday, June 19, 2025, through their official X account, that the final will be played on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium.
“The final match will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday, August 30, 2025,” read part of the post.
CAF additionally confirmed that Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening match on August 2, 2025 while Uganda will host the third-place playoff in Kampala.

The tournament, which features players from domestic leagues, will offer Kenyan talent a rare chance to shine on home soil. Local fans are expected to turn up in large numbers, with the event promising an economic and tourism boost.
Football stakeholders have welcomed the development, calling it a timely opportunity to showcase Kenya’s hosting capability.
The last time East Africa hosted CHAN was in 2016 in Rwanda. With this year’s edition, Kenya is set to leave a lasting impression as it closes the tournament with what is expected to be a thrilling final.
