Kenya will host the final match of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani.

This will be a major boost for the country’s football ambitions ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF Media confirmed on Thursday, June 19, 2025, through their official X account, that the final will be played on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium.

“The final match will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday, August 30, 2025,” read part of the post.

The announcement cements Kenya’s place on the continental football map and highlights its readiness to stage major international events.

This year’s CHAN will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—a historic first for the region. Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening match on August 2, while Uganda will host the third-place playoff in Kampala.

“Tanzania to host opening match, Uganda to host third/fourth, and Kenya to host final match of the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024,” read part of the post.

Signalling confidence in Kenya’s infrastructure. Kasarani Stadium has undergone upgrades to meet CAF standards, part of broader preparations for hosting AFCON 2027.

Originally scheduled for February 2024, CHAN was postponed to August 2025 due to unavailable stadiums. CAF’s Executive Committee approved the new dates in January.

The tournament, which features players from domestic leagues, will offer Kenyan talent a rare chance to shine on home soil. Local fans are expected to turn up in large numbers, with the event promising an economic and tourism boost.

Football stakeholders have welcomed the development, calling it a timely opportunity to showcase Kenya’s hosting capability.

The last time East Africa hosted CHAN was in 2016 in Rwanda. With this year’s edition, Kenya is set to leave a lasting impression as it closes the tournament with what is expected to be a thrilling final.
