FKF president joins Mariga, Wanyama in mourning their mother’s death

FKF President Hussein Mohammed has now broken his silence following the death of McDonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama’s mother, joining the growing list of Kenyans mourning with the family of the football legends.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Hussein sent his condolences to his vice president, Mariga, and the entire Wanyama family following the demise of their mother, Mildred Wanyama.

He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the family, noting that his thoughts and those of many others are with them during this difficult time. He wished the late Mildred Wanyama eternal peace.
“My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of my deputy president, McDonald Mariga, and the entire Wanyama family as you mourn the loss of your beloved mum. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time; may her soul rest in eternal serenity.” Hussein said
Hussein Mohammed was elected President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on December 7, 2024, with McDonald Mariga as his Vice President.
Death announcement
The heartbreaking news was shared by Mariga on Saturday, June 14, 2025, confirming that their mother passed away peacefully in the morning.
In his message to his followers, Mariga noted that the family is currently making funeral arrangements and will share more details with the public in due time.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully this morning. We are currently making arrangements and will share more details soon. “Thank you,” Mariga wrote.

Mildred Wanyama raised one of Kenya’s most iconic sports families. She was married to former AFC Leopards player Noah Wanyama, and together they brought up a household deeply rooted in sports.
Other siblings
In addition to Victor and Mariga, Mildred was also the mother of Thomas and Sylvester, both of whom have played professional football, and Mercy, a talented basketball player who has represented Kenya internationally.
She was often spotted cheering from the stands during matches and took an active role during Mariga’s political campaigns, offering unwavering support to her children in every chapter of their lives.
