Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has dismissed claims that he is being used by political forces to undermine Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora that aired on his YouTube channel on the night of Friday, June 19, 2026, Jalang’o said his political journey is guided by personal ambition and a long-term vision rather than external influence.

He further revealed that his interest in Nairobi politics is part of a broader plan that could eventually see him contest for the city’s top leadership seat.

Jalang’o downplayed suggestions of a political fallout with Sifuna, insisting that the two maintain a cordial relationship despite growing speculation over their future electoral interests in Nairobi politics.

He added that there was no scenario in which he would have considered contesting for the Nairobi Senate seat if Sifuna had also been in the race.

“Sifuna is actually a very good friend of mine. It is only that we have not seen each other for a very long time, and there is no way I was going to run for Senate if he was running. He is not running for the Senate in 2027,” Jalang’o said.

Jalang’o denies being used in political schemes

The legislator firmly rejected claims that he is being used by unnamed political actors to counter Sifuna’s influence in Nairobi politics, describing such narratives as misleading.

“I am part of the people who consume very raw intelligence. I saw that come, and I have always had this big vision,” he said.

“I am not being used by anybody.”

Jalang’o emphasised that his political decisions are independently made and shaped by his long-term aspirations rather than short-term political alignments or factional battles.

Eyes on Nairobi senate and governor ambition

The Lang’ata MP also used the interview to outline his broader political ambitions, revealing that he is positioning himself for a transition from constituency politics to county-level leadership.

“I would go for my second term in Lang’ata constituency but I want to have this perspective of how does running a county look like. How does a county campaign look like?” he posed.

He added that his ultimate political goal is to one day lead Nairobi County as governor.

“I have a vision that one day I will become a governor of this city. So I am on my way, I am not being used by anybody,” he said.

Jalang’o’s remarks come amid growing political realignments in Nairobi as leaders begin positioning themselves for key elective seats, including the Senate and gubernatorial race.

For now, Jalang’o maintains that his focus remains on his current parliamentary duties while gradually building what he describes as a long-term vision for Nairobi’s leadership future.
