Jalang’o declares bid to unseat Sifuna in Nairobi’s senatorial race in 2027 elections
Langata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, has declared his bid to run for Nairobi’s senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. Jalang’o is expected to battle it out with the current Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in the bid to represent the city in the Senate.
Speaking during an interview at a local Radio station on Tuesday,10,2026, the first time MP has expressed his ambitions to run for the senatorial race, disputing that he has been fronted to run for the position by President Ruto. Jalang’o, who was elected on an ODM ticket, has been seen to advocate for the reelection bid of President Ruto and has been seen to be in support of the Ruto government, even before the alliance talks between the ruling party, UDA and ODM.
“Siasa haupangiwi na mtu yeyote.Kiti ambacho unakitaka haungoji kupangiwa na kuuliziwa na kuambiwa we ni rafiki yangu.Haupangiwi.kama ni maamuzi ni maamuzi yako binafsi,”Jalang’o said.
Loosely translated as “In politics, you don’t wait for anyone to plan for you. You don’t wait to be asked or to be told the position you want to vie for because you are a friend of someone. It is a personal decision.”

On the question of the party he will use to run for the senatorial seat, the lawmaker has said that he is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement and therefore he will be vying on the party’s ticket and will be aligned with the coalition that the ODM party will join at that moment.
“Mimi ni mwana ODM,hicho ndicho chama changu na hapo ndio niko.Ile coalition ambayo ODM itakuwa hapo ndipo nitakuwa,” Jalang’o added.
Translated as, “I am a member of the ODM party. That is my party, and that is where I stand. I will be in the coalition that my party will align with.”

Jalang’o and Sifuna in opposing camps within ODM
The ambitious decision by the first-time MP for the Langata constituency to challenge the party’s secretary general in the Nairobi senatorial race has come at a time when there are wrangles in the ODM party over the decision to work and form a pact with the ruling party, UDA.
The Nairobi senator is leading the party’s faction that is opposed to the coalition with UDA, while Jalang’o is allied to the party leader Oburu Odinga’s side that welcomes the decision to work with UDA.
