FKF president hails Nairobi United’s historic cup triumph
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Mohamed Hussein has congratulated Nairobi United for their historic FKF Cup victory after beating Gor Mahia 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
In a statement posted on X, the FKF president praised both finalists and the teams that participated in the competition, saying:
“Congratulations to Nairobi United on your historic Mozzart Bet Cup triumph. Well played, Gor Mahia, you fought hard all the way to the final. Hats off to Murang’a Seal for finishing third and to Mara Sugar for a spirited campaign.”
United’s dream run rewarded
Nairobi United stunned giants Gor Mahia with a disciplined and determined performance. Goals from Frank Ouya and Enock Machaka saw the second-tier champions claim their first-ever major trophy, completing a remarkable domestic double after winning the FKF National Super League earlier in the season. Ben Stanley Omondi was on target for Gor Mahia.

Gor Mahia came into the final with high hopes. Their coach had assured fans on Saturday that the team was fully focused and aware of the stakes, which included a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. However, Nairobi United struck early and remained composed, frustrating Gor’s attempts to equalise in the second half.
The FKF president also thanked tournament sponsors for their continued support. Their partnership has helped the competition grow in stature, giving lower-tier teams like Nairobi United a platform to shine on the national stage.
Murang’a Seal finished third after overcoming Mara Sugar in the playoff, rounding off an exciting tournament that featured surprise upsets and strong fan engagement across the country.
With the win, Nairobi United secure a place in continental football next season, a stunning achievement for a club that has quickly risen through the ranks of Kenyan football.
