Nairobi United stun Gor Mahia to clinch FKF Cup
Nairobi United have made history after edging out Gor Mahia 2-1 in the final of the 2025 FKF Cup at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, June 29, 2025, clinching their first-ever major domestic title.
Goals from Frank Ouya and Enock Machaka sealed a famous victory for last season’s second-tier side, capping off a dream cup run that saw them eliminate four top-flight clubs. Ben Stanley Omondi scored the sole goal for Gor Mahia.
Coming into the match, Gor Mahia were the favourites. Their head coach had exuded confidence, assuring fans on the eve of the clash that his team was fully prepared.
“It’s a final, you don’t have any room for errors,” he had said on Saturday, June 28, 2025, underlining the high stakes which included not just silverware but a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nairobi United seize moment
But it was Nairobi United who played with composure and hunger from the first whistle. Frank Ouya gave them the lead with a powerful finish in the first half, sending their vocal supporters into wild celebrations.
Gor Mahia pulled back through Ben Stanley Omondi in the first half, sparking hopes of a comeback. But Nairobi United held firm; Enock Machaka added the second in the second half, showing remarkable maturity and tactical discipline to see out the match.
The win means Nairobi United not only lift their maiden FKF Cup but also earn a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, a historic feat for a team that was only recently crowned FKF National Super League champions. This completes a remarkable domestic double for the club.
Gor Mahia, meanwhile, will be left to rue another missed opportunity after also falling short in the FKF Premier League title race to Kenya Police FC. Despite a dominant run to the final, which included big wins over Bandari, Kariobangi Sharks, and a penalty shootout triumph over Murang’a Seal — they fell at the last hurdle.
