Facilities to determine sharing of crucial 2027 AFCON ties, Ababu says

Ababu Namwamba hinted yesterday that host countries are already thinking of how to distribute the matches across the East African region, just a day after a monumental victory of getting the 2027 AFCON hosting rights in Cairo.

A debate which is quickly gathering steam amongst football fans and netizens of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania on which nation would get the opening ceremony and the final of the showpiece that is just four years away.

Speaking after jetting back from Cairo, Egypt yesterday, where the Confederation of African Football (CAF) accepted Kenya’s joint bid with Tanzania and Uganda, CS Ababu said that those are things that are clicking in their minds, reteitarting that, even though it could be part of the crucial decisions to be made, it will not divide the bloc and that they work in harmony to find suitable passwords if need be.

The excited CS added that the outlook of available infrastructure at that time could determine who gets what in the coveted African premier competition. “I know there is this about who will get for example the opening match or the final,for sure this is already at the back of our minds.We shall seek guidance from CAF on the matter when the time comes.I am very sure this will not divide us.Even as we ponder about this issue,you know very well the goodness of the facilities can take a very big role in making a decision.We need to have beautiful stadia because of the live broadcast,these are high level games and for one to get a final or an opening ceremony one must show that they deserve,” Ababu said.

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa the bid could not sail through if it were not for the immense support from President William Ruto.\

“This is a big milestone for our country and the region at large.We have manage to fight through the mucky waters,it was tough but we were able to convince our friends to vote for us and we are grateful that finally AFCON is coming home.What i would like to repeat is that,the work begins now and we have to make sure this is a reality.Special thanks to our president William Ruto,he has made this possible because his tremendous support,” Mwendwa told People Sport.
