AFC Leopards were held to a 1-1 draw by Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The result came after a closely fought match, keeping both teams in their respective positions on the SportPesa Premier League table.

Humphrey Aroko netted for Kariobangi Sharks while Victor Omune scored for AFC Leopards. The goals ensured that neither side left Kasarani with maximum points, reflecting the tight contest between the 12-time league champions and the struggling Sharks.

AFC Leopards arrived at Kasarani hoping to bounce back after a disappointing run. The team had dropped four points in their previous two matches, beginning with a 2-0 loss to Mara Sugar, followed by a goalless draw against Murang’a SEAL. Their recent struggles on the road added to the challenge, with only four points earned in three away games so far this season.

Despite these challenges, Leopards started the game with urgency to recover from falling behind. Humphrey Aroko’s early goal gave Kariobangi Sharks the lead, but AFC Leopards responded well under Fred Ambani, using their experience to control possession and create chances.

Victor Omune’s equaliser ensured the match ended in a draw, while Sharks, guided by assistant coach Edward Seda with head coach William Muluya away on international duty with Kenya U17, showed resilience to keep the contest tight.

Sharks fight for survival

Sharks, sitting 17th on the league table, have struggled for form this season. The team has won just one match, drawn four, and lost four from nine games. They have scored seven goals and conceded 11, highlighting the defensive challenges they face. However, they showed resilience against Leopards, with Aroko’s goal securing a vital point for the team.

Recent history between the two sides shows a pattern of low-scoring matches. Kariobangi Sharks have now failed to beat AFC Leopards in their last seven league meetings, with Leopards winning twice and five matches ending in draws.

This draw sees AFC Leopards remain in third place on the table with 14 points from nine matches. They are level on points with Kenya Police, who have a game in hand, but remain behind second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz and leaders Gor Mahia.

Leopards’ record this season includes three wins, five draws, and just one defeat, with ten goals scored and eight conceded.

For Kariobangi Sharks, the draw offers a small boost in their fight to escape relegation. With seven points from nine matches, the team remains close to the bottom, just ahead of APS Bomet.

Sharks have struggled with inexperience in the final third, managing only seven goals this season, but their disciplined performance against Leopards shows they can compete against stronger sides.

Looking ahead, AFC Leopards will now turn their attention to the Mashemeji Derby against Gor Mahia, scheduled for November 30. This match is a crucial test for Fred Ambani’s side as they aim to close the gap on league leaders and maintain their challenge for the title.
