Gor Mahia FC extended their lead at the top of the Kenyan Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tusker FC on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The win marked the 100th league meeting between the two clubs, with Gor Mahia aiming to maintain their dominance over their long-time rivals.

The decisive goal came in the 8th minute of the match, securing maximum points for the Green Army. Gor Mahia’s coach, Charles Akonnor, had expressed confidence in his squad ahead of the game, despite challenges posed by the late return of international players.

“The only challenge is that our international players have just returned today, but it’s nothing we can’t handle. We use friendly matches to ensure everyone gets to the same level,” Akonnor said.

Gor Mahia entered the fixture at the top of the table with 16 points from seven matches. They had gone unbeaten in their last six league games, winning five and drawing once. Defensively, the team had conceded just two goals, giving them the best defensive record in the league so far.

Tusker FC came into the game in seventh place with 12 points. Despite an inconsistent start to the season, Tusker remained a tough opponent.

Historic rivalry

The rivalry between Gor Mahia and Tusker is one of the most historic in Kenyan football. Before Saturday’s game, Gor Mahia had 40 wins from 99 league encounters, compared to Tusker’s 30, with 29 matches ending in draws.

The centurion league meeting added extra significance to the encounter, motivating the Green Army to avenge last season’s results when Tusker had taken four points from two meetings. Gor Mahia have now managed 41 wins, Tusker have 30 wins, while 29 have ended in draws.

With this victory, Gor Mahia now have 19 points from eight matches, extending their lead over Kakamega Homeboyz, who sit second with 15 points.

Kenya Police and AFC Leopards are in third and fourth positions, both closely following in the title race. Tusker, meanwhile, remain in eighth place with 12 points from ten matches, needing to recover quickly to avoid falling further behind in the standings.
