Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity maintenance exercise that will lead to blackouts in several parts of the country on Monday, April 20, 2026.

“Good evening, please receive the list of areas scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow (Monday, 20.04.2026),” the utility firm said in a post on its official X account.

The company then released a detailed notice showing affected regions, grouped by county and locality, with outages set to run between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. in most areas.

Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, the blackout will affect areas listed under Coca-Cola and Kingongo.

The full list includes Kirima C/Fact, Gamerock Estate, Chania Village, Chania Secondary School, Mt. Kenya Junior and Senior Schools, Zawadi Estate, Murungaru, Kiganjo Coffee Plantation, Kingongo Prison, Goodwood Properties, Nyeri Baptist, Garden Estate, Nyeri Inn, Mpeta House, Highlands, Kingongo Primary, Nyeri Primary, Ola Petrol Station, Kingongo Estate, Cofasso Catholic Church, Coca-Cola, National Oil, Good Shepherd and nearby customers.

Uasin Gishu County

In Uasin Gishu County, the Cheptabach area will be affected from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. The listed areas include Cheptabach, Center Kwanza, Sugoi, Kosachei and Mimosa, plus surrounding customers.

Another section of Uasin Gishu will experience a longer outage from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. The affected areas are Soy, Likuyani, Nangili, Imbinga, Soysambu, Furfural, Makokha Market, Miremebe, Sikulu, Sango, Kabobo, Silgich, Chemororoch, Mobett, Kisigame, Iwugwi and adjacent customers.

Nandi and Kisii Counties

In Nandi County, Chebarbar and its surrounding customers will have no electricity between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.

In South Nyanza, parts of Kisii County will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The listed areas include Nyangweta, Etago and Ekona. Others are Kenyenya Primary, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School, Etago Market, Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, Suguta, Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Ekona, Mogenda, Ochodororo, Maroo and nearby customers.

Kenya Power reminded customers to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and to switch off appliances for safety.

The utility firm often carries out such works to improve supply reliability and upgrade the grid. In earlier remarks, Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror said infrastructure maintenance remains costly but necessary.

“If you look at electricity infrastructure, it reaches your doorstep. Putting up and maintaining that infrastructure is quite expensive,” Siror said in a past interview.

The company also continues to face public concern over electricity costs and token units, even as it defends pricing structures and ongoing investments in the power network.
