Ruto, Uhuru arrive for Raila Odinga’s burial service at JOOUST
President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta have arrived in Bondo for the burial service of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
The two leaders joined hundreds of dignitaries, political allies, and supporters who had flocked to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University to bid farewell to the man many called Baba on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Security in the area has been tightened, with heavy deployment of police officers and the military to ensure the smooth running of the ceremony. The atmosphere in Bondo is both emotional and reflective as Kenyans from all walks of life gather to bid farewell to a leader who has shaped the nation’s political history.

Ruto arrived, joining top government officials and dignitaries, including Cabinet Secretaries, governors, and Members of Parliament, underscoring the magnitude of the occasion. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who worked closely with Raila during the handshake era, also drew applause from the crowd upon his arrival.
As early as 4:00 am, thousands of mourners had already made their way to the venue, with roads leading to Opoda Farm packed with people walking, cycling, and waving flags in tribute. The crowd sang liberation songs, some waving placards with messages of peace, unity, and gratitude for Raila’s lifelong struggle for democracy.
The funeral service is being presided over by Anglican Bishop David Kodia of the Diocese of Bondo, who also delivered the fiery sermon at Nyayo Stadium earlier this week. Religious leaders from different denominations have joined him in leading prayers for the fallen statesman.

The ceremony has drawn attendance from across the political divide, a testament to a man who dedicated his life to uniting Kenyans despite their political differences.
After the service, Raila’s body will be laid to rest at his Opoda home in Siaya County, bringing to an end a week of national mourning and tributes.
The mood in Bondo remains sombre but dignified, with many describing the burial as the end of an era, the final chapter in the life of a man whose name will forever be etched in Kenya’s democratic journey.
