Trouble is brewing between the family members of Nyamira County pioneer Governor, the late John Nyagarama, over the sharing of properties between his two widows.

Sharp differences and disagreements have emerged between the children of the first widow and their stepmother over the sharing of properties and other interests that the governor left.

Before Nyagarama died, he had distributed his properties and other assets between his two wives, but the children of the first wife, whose mother predeceased their father, are complaining and protesting that their mother was not given her rightful share by virtue of being the first wife.

They are now pointing an accusing finger at their stepmother Naom for putting undue influence and making their father bequeath their mother a raw deal.

The children have mobilised their siblings and have started reclaiming some properties given to their stepmother.

Land disposal

Speaking to People Daily on June 1, 2025, Naom said that the children of her co-late wife Sigara have taken over her properties at Mosobeti, Borabu settlement scheme and Isinya in Kajiado.

She shed tears, narrating how the children have also broken the gate and house into her residential home at Tente in Nyamira town, where the late husband is buried and taken over the homestead.

The widow said that she tried to engage all relatives and leaders of all calibre so that they (children) could say what their problem is, but they have refused to listen to any of them.

When contacted, the children dismissed claims by their stepmother that they were out to evict her.

Emily, the governor’s daughter, said that the only problem they had was the sale of the piece of land where their father is buried to a prominent businessman in Nyamira town.

“We recognise her as our stepmother, but as a family, at all costs, we can’t allow her to sell the piece of land where our dear father is buried. This is the place where we could be conducting a lot of activities in remembrance of our father, and therefore selling it out means we could be locked out,” she stated.
