PSC raises alarm over imposters promising gov’t jobs and promotions

Public Service Commission (PSC), a body responsible for managing human resources within the Kenya civil service and local authorities, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, raised an alarm over the proliferation of imposters promising citizens jobs and other deals in government.
In a notice, PSC revealed that fraudsters posing as staff in the service were soliciting money from unsuspecting Kenyans in exchange for key services.
Public Service Commission noted that the fraudsters were pledging to help secure shortlisting for candidates who had applied for various positions.
Besides shortlisting, PSC added that the said imposters were leading people to expect that they would help them secure employment and even promotions in exchange for an undisclosed amount of money.

Their scheme had extended to target civil servants battling various cases pledging to help them file appeals.
However, PSC flagged the scheme indicating that it was being orchestrated by individuals posing as employees of the commission.
“Beware of fraudsters posing as PSC staff and soliciting money in exchange for our services,” the statement read in part.
“PSC Does not charge to offer services i.e shortlisting, job opportunities, promotions or appeals,” it added.
Report cases
To help address the issue, PSC appealed to the victims and those who had encountered the said imposters to report them.
The commission insisted that reporting would help arrest the increasing cases of unsuspecting Kenyans losing their hard-earned money.
“Report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities or to the commission immediately,” PSC implored Kenyans.

This came after PSC advertised various jobs in February 2025 including over 200 ICT jobs, 38 in various institutions and a recent advertisement on vacancies in the National Police Service Commission.
“Pursuant to the provision of Article 246(2)(4) of the Constitution and Section 5 of the National Police Service Commission Act 2011, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of the Chairperson and Member of the National Police Service Commission,” the announcement read in part.
In all the advertisements, PSC directed Kenyans to apply through its official portal and avoid third parties promising to expedite the process.
