PS Raymond Omollo dismisses calls to resign amid mounting pressure
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has dismissed calls from the opposition figures for his resignation, saying there is no justification for stepping down based on public claims and current political pressure.
Speaking in an interview with a local station on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Omollo said such demands were unfounded and driven by political narratives rather than facts.
“Resign for doing what? Simply because it has become fashionable to mention names, I don’t think that can be a basis for anyone to want to go down that road,” Omollo stated.
Pressure for resignation
The calls for Omollo’s resignation were fuelled by the recent rise in goonism and attacks on opposition leaders during their political rallies.
Speaking on Thursday, April 9, 2026, former Vice President and Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka called for the immediate resignation of Omollo, accusing him of hiring the goons who attacked Osotsi in Kisumu.

According to Kalonzo, Omollo’s name has been dragged into the matter and other incidents leading to attacks on leaders opposed to the government before the recent incident, saying that resignation is the honourable thing the PS can do.
“Raymond Omollo should immediately resign. We demand that he resign immediately and we are giving him upto tomorrow. Raymond omollo’s name is plainly placed before kenyans and these are his goons,” Kalonzo stated.
Kalonzo asked Senators Daniel Maanzo and Boni Khalwale to consider a special sitting in both the Senate and the National Assembly.
“I don’t know whether you’re going to call for a special sitting to discuss this as a matter of urgent national importance. Today it is Osotsi; tomorrow it could be someone else,” he said.
Omollo’s plea to politicians
Omollo cautioned political leaders against what he termed the exploitation of young people’s struggles for political gain or to advance agendas that could encourage unlawful behaviour.

“But the bottom line again, because we are talking about the issues of goons, is that my plea is to any leader or politician, for that matter, let us not take advantage of the challenges that our young people face to want to use them to push political narratives or to want to get involved in acts of criminality,” Omollo added.
Rise of goonism, a threat to democracy
Kalonzo has warned that the continued use of goons in politics was dangerous and could reverse the country’s democratic gains if not addressed urgently.
He said the trend is retrogressive and risks dragging the country backwards at a time when Kenyans expect peaceful political engagement and respect for constitutional freedoms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The United Opposition has been pressuring security agencies to act on the sponsors of political violence, stating that law enforcement officers should remain neutral and uphold the rule of law irrespective of political affiliation.
