Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has dismissed claims linking former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to being a state project within the opposition.

Speaking during an interview on a local YouTube channel, Kisia strongly rejected the allegations, arguing that they were being propagated by NIS agents working on a payroll to undermine the trust Kenyans have in the opposition.

“We have heard people talking of Matiangi being a project that is NIS at its work; they are paid to do that,” Kisia stated.

He further dismissed reports suggesting that Kalonzo Musyoka would defect from the united or loyal opposition to the government side. According to Kisia, Kalonzo remains firmly in the opposition, emphasising that there is no political space for him to defect to the government.

“There are two places you can go to: on the left, it’s the devil’s home, where people burn with oil and forward; on the other side, there is milk and honey. Do you think Kalonzo can move to Satan’s side? He will remain on this side. I can speak on Kalonzo’s behalf; he will remain on people’s side,” he said.

“We have heard people talking about Kalonzo defecting. Defecting to where? Where can Kalonzo defect to? He can only defect to the loyal opposition. He is in the loyal opposition. He can only defect to the loyal opposition,” he added.

Kalonzo on ditching opposition

These come days after Kalonzo himself dismissed these claims.

Speaking during an interview on a podcast on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, he strongly rejected the speculations and calls for him to abandon the opposition and join the government.

He stated that whenever he considers making any political move of such magnitude, he first conducts consultations, prays, and then makes the decision. According to him, this has always been his approach to politics since time immemorial.

“That is why these naysayers keep on saying Kalonzo will join Ruto at the last minute. Last minute, ya wapi? Those who know me know that first I consult, then I pray, and then I move. There is no way you can see how I played a role in making Kibaki president,” Kalonzo said.
