Kalonzo dismisses last-minute plans of joining Ruto ahead of 2027 contest
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed talks of him joining the government as the 2027 polls approach.
Speaking during an interview on a podcast on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, he strongly rejected the speculations and calls for him to abandon the opposition and join the government.
He stated that whenever he considers making any political move of such magnitude, he first conducts consultations, prays, and then makes the decision. According to him, this has always been his approach to politics since time immemorial.
“‘That is why these naysayers keep on saying Kalonzo will join Ruto at the last minute. Last minute, ya wapi? Those who know me know that first I consult, then I pray, and then I move. There is no way you can see how I played a role in making Kibaki president,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo, who is a key figure within the United Opposition, which is set to face President Ruto, further noted that over the years, he has gained a lot of experience and is now an expert in coalition building.

Ruto allies court Kalonzo
This response from Kalonzo comes after repeated calls from various leaders allied to the government, urging Kalonzo to join Ruto and work together ahead of 2027.
On July 19, 2025, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi urged Kalonzo Musyoka to join forces with President William Ruto and Raila Odinga during a rural electrification event in Kitui County.
Wandayi expressed confidence that Kalonzo would soon collaborate with them to advance Kenya’s progress, stating that he was confident Kalonzo would work with Raila Odinga and President Ruto to move the country forward.
Kalonzo swiftly dismissed the suggestion, vowing not to align with a regime he accused of oppressing Kenyans and having “our children’s blood on its hands”.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has also been actively courting Kalonzo, suggesting that the veteran politician is better suited for collaborative roles rather than confrontational politics. Kindiki has proposed that Kalonzo work with President Ruto to find national solutions.
